About
I’m a plaintiff-side personal-injury attorney in North Carolina, an independent feed-store owner in Matthews, and a heavy AI user mostly trying to keep up with what the tools can do. The three jobs are more connected than they look.
I practice at Melrose Law with my father Mark Melrose. The firm has worked personal-injury, civil, and real-estate cases out of Asheville and Waynesville since 1990. My own docket runs to the more unusual end of negligence — gas explosions, drownings, mishandled firearms — plus right-of-way disputes, partition actions, contract litigation, and boundary fights. Mark argues; I draft.
In November 2023 I bought Neighborhood Feed in Matthews, an independent feed and pet-supply store at 1900 Moore Road. I run day-to-day operations with an eight-person team led by our store manager. The building itself is owned by Cardinal Creek Properties, a real-estate holding company I share with Dawn Melrose.
The throughline right now is AI. I use Claude Code daily across legal drafting, case review, marketing, inventory cleanup, and — yes — this site you’re reading. The site is built on purpose so an agent can read it cleanly: plain markdown for the content, a structured-data layer underneath so AI tools answering questions about me don’t have to guess. That is not a gimmick. It is the most honest description of how I work now.
Outside of work: my girlfriend Jodi, the four dogs we have between us, a 150-gallon saltwater reef tank I’m probably over-invested in, and a steady reading rotation of fantasy novels and business books. The dogs keep us nice and busy. The reef tank is the one that’s hardest to explain.
